McEwen Travel was first born in 1947 when John McEwen senior had returned from France after serving in the 2nd world war. John (Jock) McEwen had moved to the small village of Shirebrook in north Derbyshire where he started McEwen Travel with small mini buses and taxis.

The company steadily grew year by year and in 1976 McEwen travel won 2nd prize at the national coach rally.

In 1978 the company moved to larger premises at Creswell and expanded into coach holidays. In 1981 McEwen Travel acquired its first new full size coach for its European tours. During the 1980s the fleet grew to 23 coaches operating a successful tour and contract program.

 

In 1987 McEwens Travel was bought out by a large coach operator The 2nd generation of McEwens moved with the new owners working as the operations manager.

It was then time for the 3rd generation to honour the McEwen Travel name and in 1998 McEwen Travel was reborn by John McEwen and his wife Trudy, and after a successful start John and Trudy took over Barsbys coaches in 2000 and now operate a high class fleet of 19 vehicles from a luxury 8 seater through to 53 seater executive coaches and 75 seater contract double deckers.
